OBSESSION AND DEPRESSION

Updated: Nov 21, 2022

Dealing with depression is no joke. It’s a major crisis in America. More than millions a year deal with depression.

How to overcome depression? and can you actually overcome depression?

I recently left my job due to depression. I’m starting to think of it as an obsession disorder due to how many times it comes and goes. Like any other substance, you must figure out how to defeat it.

I was around 9 years old when I discovered what depression was. As a kid, dealing with depression affect my friendships and relationships, and I always said “It feels like a ton of weight laying heavy on my back” something I consistently told a mental health advisor who came to visit me when I was in the 5th grade. I had it rough growing up due to moving away from family and changing schools. so have many of you.

Mental health is a crisis that should be taken seriously.

Several people are trying to find ways to stop dealing with depression, myself included. I have been on a mission since I was 9 to find depression and dead it overall but for some odd reason, it seems to sneak back up. My depression hits at any time and anywhere, today it hit me while I was in bed, I cried and prayed. I later journaled it. Journaling is my go-to, I can’t afford my mental health so I decided to write. It’s a free way to document.

Throughout my long and exhausting journey with depression, I did find certain jewels you can sell if you chose.

  1. Prayer – I’m heavy on prayer and deep spirits. I know many people who tell me their stories and I ask “have you prayed about it” and most of the time they look at me like I’m funny and say “what is prayer supposed to do?” well how would you know if you don’t give it a try? I understand, because you don’t see it then you feel as if it doesn’t work but the same as depression, do you see it?

  2. Exercise – Exercising lowers your stress levels and helps you function throughout the day.

  3. Talk to someone – It helps out ALOT! you never know what someone has gone through until you let them in to explore what you are going through. I’ve met a lot of wise people and most knew exactly what to say to pull me out of my depression. If you don’t have anyone to talk to please take advantage of social media, upload your thoughts and feeling or go find a hotline that you can call. It never hurts to try.

  4. Sleep – Sleeping calms the nervous system and to be frank, certain dreams could improve your mood.

  5. Go to the doctor – if you’ve tried all the above and some but nothing is working, I advise you to seek medical help. What you are going through is not the end of the world and your life is important. Take care of yourself first! if you are working somewhere that drains you, try to find another job or practice stress management. If you are in a bad relationship, seek counseling or do what seems easier for you.

Depression is a tough battle we all face every now and then, it’s great to know we are not alone with our thoughts and feelings, here at Sierra and Rose we thrive on telling our stories in the hope to help someone out there going through what we’ve been through. No more silencing ourselves, your voice deserves to be heard even when you believe no one will listen.

In conclusion, dealing with depression is extremely challenging. We can come together and help one another relieve ourselves of such nightmares.
