CARE TIPS FOR 4C HAIR
Updated: Nov 21, 2022
Taking care of your hair shouldn’t be an emotional trip. I have 4c hair, my hair is beautifully coily which means it can get tangled quite easily. Lately, I have been using products I found on Etsy that have great reviews. I can list the products I use in another article and go into more in detail about my full honest review later!
Now let’s talk about what I do to have thicker and fuller hair!
Tip #1 wash and deep condition
I use regular conditioner, but I love deep conditioning my hair! It smells incredible and I love being under the dryer for 15-30 mins, it is relaxing. I usually wrap my hair with a plastic bag, I like it better that way, the heat locks in and make your hair sweat which is a good thing!
Tip #2 No heat!
No heat! I recommend you stop putting heat on your hair unless you can pay a professional almost every week to restore your hair but if you’re like me, you don’t want to spend extra money and time going to someone to fix what shouldn’t have happened. If you must use heat, use a heat protector. I will also recommend using a 325 or lower heating power, 425 will fry your hair and if you want to use another route, I recommend using a blow dryer.
Tip #3 Protection Styles
I don’t know about you but I looooove braids! My whole life I always wore braids! They are so convenient plus they are cute on anyone! I like to do my braids but it’s best to find someone who charges a great price for the style you want.
Tip #4 Moisturize
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Sometimes your hair just needs a little moisture to grow a few inches! Don’t just use a leave-in conditioner, use some grease. I remember when I was younger, every time my mom or a stylist did my hair, they made sure to add grease and my hair always loved it. I know now grease has bad taste in many people’s mouths, but I can’t think of a reason to not use grease.
Tips #5 Wrap your hair
When I was little, I use to go over to my aunt’s house, who can do wonders to your hair. She has a daughter whose hair she would do every night before school. I remember watching her wrap my cousin’s hair, it intrigued me to see what will happen the next day. Well, the next day comes around, and her mom just smoothly slides the scarf off her head, as it glides off, I just saw a bright light that screamed “aaahhhh” her hair so silky and straight, it changed how I took care of my hair.
Tip #6. Protect your ends.
It is so important I should’ve listed this as #1. Several of us will go about our day not caring about our hair. Long as it’s styled, nothing can happen, right? Wrong! If you are at home doing nothing, I suggest a shower cap or wrapping your hair. I promise you; it will make a world of difference! 4C hair needs moisture, sealing, and protection daily! I cannot stress this enough!
Tip #7. Water
Believe it or not but water is everything! People wish to find the fountain of youth when it’s already found. Water hydrates your body, hair, and skin.
In conclusion, taking care of my 4C hair has been so rewarding! I try to stay away from heat as much as possible.
