Hi babes! I assume you landed here because you are wondering how to start a blog and if blogging is still a thing in 2022. well, let me be the first to remind you, that it still is! and bloggers are still making revenue blogging. Want to know how just keep scrolling.

First, what is a blog?
A blog in my own words is a piece of the web that you can control, create, and gain success from. With millions on the internet every single day, it is pretty hard to not run into a blog post, you are reading a blog post right now.
Blogs are channels where you share your thoughts about a certain topic, in a certain niche, but now not all blogs have a specific niche but most blogs do. Let’s not confuse a blog with a blog post. A blog post is what you are reading and the blog itself is the website or web page located on my website. Starting a blog in 2022 is the blog post (article) on sierraandrose.com and the blog itself is a section on sierraandrose.com. I hope I’m not confusing you, just keep reading for clarity.
Who can create a blog?
Anyone can create a blog, it is pretty easy actually. I know several people who started a blog, some are stay-at-home spouses, some work a part-time job, a few are in college and I know a couple of people who have a business and running a blog through their business website. See, anyone can blog, I actually encourage you to start blogging, you will be surprised at what results happen after dedicating your time to blogging plus it is beneficial. Anyway, I have a few steps you should take when creating a blog, and no worries I also have another article you should read talking about what to expect when blogging and the pros and cons of blogging. Now here’s a step-by-step blog.
Step 1. Choosing a domain name.
Before you do anything, do you have a name for your blog? If not that is okay, you can always figure it out later but this should be the first thought to your blog so people can easily remember you rather than you having a domain name GoDaddy or Bluehost pick for you. Now, what is a domain? A domain is a destination you type into a web browser – such as www.sierraandrose.com basically the name of a website, well your website once you choose your domain and the benefits of having your own domain is having complete and absolute ownership, no one can take it from you unless you forget to renew your host. For instance, it’s like owning a piece of land but still having to pay annual taxes for your ownership.
Step 2. Hosting
Hosting is a service platform and domain registrar you choose to insure your domain. I do believe you should do your due diligence since whichever hosting platform you choose will be holding your domain for you and your domain is your piece of real estate, so choose carefully where you want to register your domain. I have 3 hosting platforms listed below and I have the pros and cons listed to save you time.
So let’s get started.
Godaddy.com
Godaddy was my first ever domain registrar and hosting platform, I liked Godaddy but the pricing was way beyond my budget, I did not do any diligent searching, I just went with the first one I saw when searching for a domain service which is a big mistake I do believe a lot of new bloggers make when starting off, it can get pretty pricey so it is also important to have a budget for your blog, in the beginning, don’t let these services trick you into thinking $5 a month isn’t pretty high when you still have to pay for your domain and theme for your website and also protection if you add that to your domain. Your total investment could cost you anywhere between $30-$100 and more.
I encourage you to plan ahead before diving right into blogging. I know it is very tempting to just go all in but pace yourself.

Cons -SSL & email cost extra -No site transfers
bluehost.com
Bluehost is what I use now, it is a better price but I did have a problem when transferring my domain from Godaddy to Bluehost, it took me over 2 months to get my website back working, and it was horrible! I contact Bluehost support and I even deleted my whole entire website not understanding why I could not find sierraandrose.com when I typed it into my web, it would say error every time, I got so frustrated with Bluehost I wanted to call it quits, and I was so sick to realize it was all my fault, I didn’t verify my email address.
Bluehost is my favorite. I treasure how WordPress is integrated into the hosting already and as a blogger, I am a big fan of WordPress.
BlueHost- $2.75 Per Month
BlueHost offers shared hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, WordPress Hosting, Cloud Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Linux Servers, and 24/7 Customer Support.
Pros -One-Click-Install for WordPress -Easy to use, beginner-friendly -Free domain and site builder – Free site migration
Cons -Discounts for longer plans only -Lacks cloud hosting -lacks Windows-based servers
HostGator
HostGator is another excellent web hosting service that I did not get a chance to use but hear good things about, so I won’t go on a long story about them but I did check out their services when I viewed their website and if I knew better I probably would have chosen their service over Bluehost but I am a happy customer. They offer an array of powerful tools, including an awesome website builder which is a must for beginner bloggers and small businesses. With every service, there is a pros and a con and HostGator is no different.
HostGator- $2.64 Per Month
HostGator offers Shared Hosting, WordPress Hosting, and VPS Hosting
Pros -Numerous hosting plan -Excellent shared hosting offering -Good for novice webmasters -useful site-building software and eCommerce tools -24/7 customer service
Cons -not all plans have a windows server option
There are plenty more hosting platforms, I listed two that I used and one that I know is inexpensive. Choosing the right hosting service is crucial so if you don’t like the ones I listed comment down below and let me know which ones you chose to go with.
Step 3 You’re Done!
After Choosing your hosting platform and getting your domain name, the next step is to design your website, depending on which hosting website you choose, you might have a WordPress host built in already. There are over 100+ free website themes on WordPress for you and after your website is created, it is then time to create content! In conclusion, blogging takes time and it can be frustrating in the beginning it can feel like forever for someone to visit your site but be patient they are coming and you are going to rock at blogging! and now you know how to create a blog.
